Dedicated workspace
There is a new desk with a comfortable office chair in the corner of the room. I prefer working from cafes nearby but it was a comfortable place to work from when I didn’t want to leave the flat.
Exercise and meditation spaces
The flat itself is relatively small, there was a separated kitchen area and a separate bathroom with shower but the living room, the bedroom and the workspace were all in the same room. There was some space to do exercise or meditation inside this room though.
There is a Crossfit gym just across the road which offers a better workout. 😊
In all honesty, I am used to bigger spaces, I myself would never rent an apartment that does not have a separate bedroom. The owner, however, made the most out of the given space, there is space for everything and I did not feel trapped or uncomfortable. But still, I would prefer an apartment with a separate bedroom but for people who don’t have such queries, the flat is perfect and cozy.
Accessibility
The apartment has good public transport connection to the city centre. Boraros square is 2 tram stops away which is a bigger transport hub. Deak Ferenc square is 20 minutes away.
There is no lift and the apartment is on the 3rd floor so not recommended if you have a heavy luggage or have issues walking upstairs.
Neighbourhood
The flat is located in the 9th district. You will find mostly locals in this area or international students who go to the nearby medical university. You have everything nearby if you don't feel like going in the centre, there are cafes, Spar supermarket and a Crossfit gym as well within walking distance.
Haller utca does not have a good reputation amongst Hungarians, it used to be a troubled area. I felt safe during the day but I always tried to get home before it was dark or I took a cab home if I finished later in the evening. Maybe nothing would have happened but it is better to be safe than sorry.
Tram 23 that connects the flat to Keleti train station is the tram line with the worst reputation in Budapest. Nothing has ever happened to me personally and maybe I am just biased but I thought I would let you know.
The host
The host was incredibly nice and kind. Originally, I wasn’t very happy with the apartment but he took my feedback seriously and made changes while I was there to make everything more comfortable for me. He was genuinely interested in how he can make the flat more attractive for digital nomads and cared about my wellbeing. He was very responsive when I texted him and he always asked if I needed anything. I really appreciated his efforts.
