Is it possible to split the payments among several people?

Yes and no. This feature is currently only available for reservation requests for properties in Madeira and Portugal.

For reservations outside these areas, you must pay the rent all at once.

When can I use the split payment option?

We understand that sometimes you find a suitable accommodation on Flatio and want to share it with other people.

Previously, only one person could pay the first rent plus the service fee and all subsequent rents, but with this option, you can choose to split payments with other people, making the initial investment easier for a single person.

The move-in and move-out dates of all the tenants must be the same in order for the lease agreement to be valid for the entire duration.

Where can I choose to split the payments?

You can select this option when you create your reservation request.

In the first step (after clicking on the Reservation Request button in the offer details) you'll see a field called Split Payments. Just check the box "I want to split payments with other people" so that our system knows about it, and complete the reservation request.

Since split payments are closely related to the bank transfer payment method, you'll see the payment details at the top of your payment details. Share these details with your flatmates along with the rent amount each should pay and wait for everyone to pay their share. Remember that you must pay the entire rent by the due date. If the entire rent isn't paid by the due date, any portion of the rent already paid will be refunded.

We highly recommend that you contact the landlord directly through the Messages section in the My Housing app and explain that you and your flatmates will be paying the first rent separately, so there may be a slight delay in completing the lease signing process. The landlord should be aware of this and not cancel your reservation (which can usually happen if the lease signing process isn't completed within 24 hours of the reservation acceptance).
